Be alert for pavement preservation crews in northwest Minnesota (Aug. 21, 2026)

Latest news releases

Motorists will experience short-term delays, lane closures and flagger operations

Bemidji, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation will begin a three-week pavement preservation project on the following highways beginning August 22:

  • Hwy 1 between Thief River Falls and Hwy 219
  • Hwy 59 between Erskine and Winger
  • Hwy 75 between Crookston and Euclid
  • Hwy 200 between Roy Lake and Zerkel
  • Hwy 313 north of Warroad

Work will take place under traffic, and a detour will not be required. Motorists, however, should expect lane closures, delays, and turn-lane restrictions. Drivers are asked to slow down in the work zone, watch for flaggers, and be alert for workers and equipment. The pavement preservation project will help maintain the pavement quality and increase the pavement lifespan.

The project is expected to be complete in mid-September. Construction activities are weather dependent and subject to change.

Important reminders for motorists regarding work zone safety:

  • Slow down when approaching every work zone, then navigate through with care and caution.
  • Stay alert; work zones constantly change.
  • Watch for workers and slow-moving equipment.
  • Obey posted speed limits. Fine for a violation in a work zone is $300.
  • Minimize distractions behind the wheel.
  • Be patient; expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
